Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL)

Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) is a method of non-destructive testing (NDT) used to detect and assess corrosion, pitting and material wall loss in ferrous metal storage tanks and pipelines.

This technology has been widely used in the NDT oilfield inspection industry and allows customers to proactively manage a tank or pipeline by repairing problematic locations and reduces the risk of tank or pipeline failure.

Various conditions, such as top surface corrosion, plate buckling, or even cleanliness of the tank floor plates can be limitations to isolating areas of concern. It takes a skilled operator to adjust the MFL equipment to the right sensitivity during use.

We are immensely proud of the training we offer to our technicians and the experience we provide our customers.

Q&A

Q: Why use our services?

A: Nextgen operators have decades of experience

Our operators have decades of experience with both common and rare material issues. We are able to understand and recognize various situations, and take the necessary actions to improve results.

After locating material loss with Magnetic Flux Leakage, the next step to find and profile the loss with ultrasonic testing. Our operators are trained and knowledgeable with the use of ultrasonics. Ultrasonic testing is required to identify the most problematic areas and to provide an accurate and effective repair strategy, which in turn, will prevent containment failure.
