Penetrant Testing (PT), also referred to as Liquid Penetrant or Dye Penetrant testing, is used to detect surface breaking defects on non-porous materials such as metals, ceramics, and plastics. The technique utilizes penetrant being drawn to the surface through capillary action and then removed and a developer applied to draw out the penetrant and produce a surface indication.
